A few years ago at the famous TED conference, there were two very interesting presentations I want to share with you. A type of debate/point-counterpoint.
This first is by celebrity pastor Rick Warren (author of the bestselling Purpose Driven Life). The second is by famed philosopher and scientist Dan Dennett (author of Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon)
TED official description of Rick Warren’s presentation:
Pastor Rick Warren, author of The Purpose-Driven Life, reflects on his own crisis of purpose in the wake of his book’s wild success. He explains his belief that God’s intention is for each of us to use our talents and influence to do good.
Pastor Rick Warren is the author of The Purpose-Driven Life, which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
TED official description of Dan Dennett’s presentation:
Philosopher Dan Dennett calls for religion — all religion — to be taught in schools, so we can understand its nature as a natural phenomenon. Then he takes on The Purpose-Driven Life, disputing its claim that, to be moral, one must deny evolution.
Philosopher and scientist Dan Dennett argues that human consciousness and free will are the result of physical processes and are not what we traditionally think they are.
