Amazingly beautiful PBS documentary narrated by Ben Kingsley.

A great, quick intro to the history of Islam (as opposed to an intro to the tenets of the religion).

After you’ve had a chance to watch, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the program.

Official Description:

Between the fall of Rome and the European voyages of discovery, few events were more significant than the rise of Islam. Within a few centuries, the Islamic empires blossomed, projecting their power from Africa to the East Indies, and from Spain to India. Inspired by the words of the Prophet Muhammed, and led by caliphs and sultans, this political and religious expansion remains unequaled in speed, geographic size and endurance.

Islam: Empire of Faith is narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley. The three-hour program tells the spectacular story of the great sweep of Islamic power and faith during its first 1,000 years from the birth of the Prophet Muhammed to the peak of the Ottoman Empire under the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent. Historical re-enactments and a remarkable exposition of Islamic art, artifacts and architecture are combined with interviews of scholars from around the world to recount the rise and importance of early Islamic civilization. Increasingly, scholars and historians are recognizing the profound impact that Islamic civilization has had on Western culture and the course of world history.

Episode 1 – The Messenger (54 minutes)

Episode 2 – The Awakening (52 minutes)

Episode 3 – The Ottomans (52 minutes)

As a former Middle Eastern Studies major, thanks for posting this! People need to know more about this… I also recommend people read Karen Armstrong as an intro.

Thank you for the videos. I am rellay loving the personal feeling with Creative Dream TV. I have recently put my tag of Survivor Extraordinaire on the back burner and am now embracing Unstoppable Woman as part of myself. Things do take time and sometimes I hate that part the waiting, the pushing, the whole everything happens in its own time- but it is a part of life. It took me 2 years to get peer programs launched in my area and now they are rellay taking off and fully supported by others as a valued aspect of healing. I am even being asked to help develop another one for our emergency shelter. It is still not paying due to funding cutbacks, but I had to stop and think about that. Did I want money- was that going to fill me up ? Or did I want what we have now which is more people getting the support they need to thrive after abuse ? Its all about the self worth and no the money isn’t going to fill me up, doing what I love does that :) I still believe one day I will make money doing what I love, until then well I just keep going, because I love it and its the right thing for me. <3 xoxoLisa Lynn

I’m GREEN to: “You are a very calm and contemplative prsoen. Others are drawn to your peaceful, nurturing nature.”It does fit my prsoenality pretty well. Doesn’t match up with my favourite colour though: PINK! LOL!Fun quiz! :)
